Position: Engineering Technician II

Nature of Role: MIKEL is currently seeking Engineering Technician to provide support to the Technology Center for Cables and Connectors (TC3) Fabrication Technician located at NUWC Division Newport, Newport RI. 

Responsibilities: 

  • Lift cable bundles (<= 35 pounds) from table to shelf or cart and the reverse. 
  • Read and comprehend cable assembly procedures and wiring diagrams. 
  • Preform electrical test IAW MIL-STD-202 (DC resistance, Insulation resistance, and Dielectric Withstand Voltage tests). 
  • J-STD-001 certified for soldering and splicing. 
  • Ability to crimp sockets, splices, and shield rings. 
  • Ability to terminate and assemble MIL Style connectors. 
  • Able to terminate, polish, assemble, test and clean MIL style fiber optic termini and connectors IAW MIL-DTL-2042 
  • Calculate mix ratios for epoxies and polyurethanes 
  • Follow technical data sheets and procedures for epoxies and polyurethanes 
  • Work with HAZMAT materials including but not limited to isopropyl alcohol, acetone, polyurethane, metal and neoprene primers. 
  • Use standard hand tools including but not limited to wrenches, t-handles, Allen keys, dremel tool with grinding and sanding attachments, sandpaper. 
  • Apply primers with acid brushes 

Requirements:

  • Security Clearance or be able to obtain one 
  • Technical School Diploma and at least 3 years of related experience
